dc.description.abstractElectronic configurations of transition metal atoms and ions are unexpected and confusing. These electronic configurations can not be explained on the basis of electrons filling orbitals, starting from the energy lowest orbitals and going to energy higher orbitals, as is the case of all other elements in the periodic table. Unusual behavior of transition metal atoms and ions is discussed in this article. The behavior is a result of similar energy of s and d orbitals in transition metal atoms, causing that electronic configuration does not depend only on the energy of s and d orbitals, but also on electron-electron repulsion.en
