AB  - In this paper, a simple, sensitive, and precise flow injection system was optimized and applied to ascorbic acid determination with a carbon paste electrode modified with the Schiff base copper complex. The modified sensor showed increased sensitivity toward ascorbic acid oxidation with a decrease of oxidation potential by 200 mV. Under optimized flow parameters, working potential, gasket thickness, sample and reaction coil volumes, and flow rate, the developed flow system gave a linear response from 5 to 75 μmol/L of ascorbic acid. The calculated limit of detection was 4.5 μmol/L, calculated as 3σ/s which corresponds to the absolute value of 40 ng for the 50 μL sample coil. The precision for six consecutive injections of 5 and 75 μmol/L ascorbic acid solutions was determined as a relative standard deviation of 5.8 % and 1.5 %, respectively. The flow injection system enabled up to 120 analyses per hour. An optimized flow system was applied to the determination of ascorbic acid in dietary supplements, after simple preparation.

Priprema senzora zasnovanih na molekulski obeleženim polimerima za elektrohemijsku detekciju ciprofloksacina

AB  - MOP senzori, već dugi niz godina, su se pokazali kao odlične elektroanalitičke 
platforme u detekciji različitih vrsta lekova i antibiotika. Cilj ovog rada bio je osmisliti novi 
način pripreme MOP senzora za osetljivu detekciju ciprofloksacina, antibiotika 
fluorohinolonske strukture. Konstruisana su dva različito hemiijski modifikovana MOP 
senzora, jedan sa CuxSey drugi sa AgCu metalnim nano česticama preko kojih je 
elektropolimerizovan MOP film za koji je pirol (Py) korišćen kao monomer. Modifikacija GCE 
elektrode sa CuxSey se u početku pokazala kao potencijalno dobrom platformom za nešto bolje 
prijanjanje MOP filma u odnosu na bGCE, ali i za osetljiviju detekciju ciprofloksacina, 
međutim ponovljivost i stabilnost ovog senzora su bili veoma upitni. Modifikacija sa AgCu 
nano česticama u konstrukciji MOP senzorske platforme pokazala se kao bolje rešenje u 
pogledu ponovljivosti funkcionalne elektrohemijske polimerizacije MOP filma na AuCuGCE,
te su za nju mogli biti izračunati analitički parametri validacije. Odziv AgCuMOP senzora bio 
je linearan u opsegu koncentracija CIP-a 1 µM-50 µM uz r2 = 0,9819. Izračunate vrednosti 
LOD-a i LOQ-a za ovu senzorsku platformu iznosile su 8,10 µM i 27,01 µM, respektivno. RSD 
između dva uzastopna merenja u rastvoru 50 µM CIP-a bila je 1,05%. Robusnost oba MOP 
senzora nije bila zadovoljavajuća, zbog problema sa adhezijom MOP filma.

Toxic element determination in selected cosmetic products: health risk assessment

AB  - The aim of this research was to determine the content of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and nickel (Ni) in selected lipsticks and face foundations of different price categories and the health risk assessment associated with these toxic elements via dermal and oral exposure. The samples (10 lipstick and 10 face foundations) were purchased from local markets in Belgrade, Serbia. The samples were prepared by acid digestion and analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry (flame atomization for Cd, Pb, and Ni and electrothermal atomization for As). Arsenic was found in 50% of lipstick samples and in only two face foundation samples with the highest concentration of 0.28 mg/kg in the lipstick sample. Lead concentration was in the range of 1.15 to 5.12 mg/kg in ten samples. Nickel was found in five samples out of 20, with the highest concentration of 4.20 mg/kg. Cadmium was found in only one face foundation sample in the cheaper price range (1.11 mg/kg). The obtained results indicate that concentrations of As, Pb, Cd, and Ni were within the permissible limits according to Serbian legislation. Health risk associated with these elements was assessed as non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk. Obtained hazard quotients (HQs) and hazard indexes (HIs) were below 1, indicating the absence of significant non-carcinogenic health risk due to exposure to these toxic elements (TEs). The carcinogenic risk results show that investigated cosmetic products can be considered low-risky due to the possibility of causing malignant disease.

Optimizacija elektrohemijskih biosenzora II generacije za detekciju glukoze uz primenu kompleksa Cu(II) sa Schiff-ovim bazama kao medijatorom

AB  - Kompleksi prelaznih metala čiji su ligandi Schiff-ove baze, pokazali su se kao izuzetno stabilni redoks medijatori u biosenzorima za glukozu. U ovom završnom radu ispitivana su upravo dva takva kompleksa, kompleks [Cu(acac2pn)] i [Cu(acac2en)], pri čemu se kompleks Cu(II) sa Schiff-ovom bazom [H2(acac2en)] pokazao boljim u primeni kao medijator u biosenzorima II generacije za glukozu. U formulaciji CPE pored pomenutih medijatora, korišćena su i tri enzima različite aktivnosti GOx(k), GOx(wt) i GOx(M12). Od deset CPE koje su načinjene za potrebe ovog završnog rada, dve su ušle u najuži izbor i to biosensor [Cu(acac2en)]-GOx(M12)-CPE i biosensor [Cu(acac2en)]-GOx(k)-CPE (odnosa enzim/medijator 1:4), te su isti podvrgnuti opsežnim ispitivanjima kako uticaja samog odnosa enzim/medijator tako i uticaju izbora kako medijatora tako i enzima za produkciju biosenzora za glukozu. Cilj ovoga rada bio da se uradi optimizacija elektrohemijskih biosenzora II generacije za detekciju glukoze uz primenu kompleksa Schiff-ovih baza kao medijatora, gde su ova dva biosenzora elektrohemijski i okarakterisana metodom ciklične voltametrije. Merenja su izvršena u troelektrodnom sistemu, gde je kao referentna elektroda korišćena je Ag/AgCl, a kao pomoćna platinska žica. Sva elektrohemijska merenja sprovedena su u fosfatnom puferu pH 7,00 koncentracije 0,1 M. Oba biosenzora su između merenja čuvana u frižideru na 4°C. Snimanja su vršena u intervalu potencijala od -0,5 V do 1,0 V, pri brzini skeniranja od 0,05 V/s i osetljivosti od 1·10-4 A/V. Analitički parametri validacije dobijeni za ova dva biosenzora su: [Cu(acac2en)]-GOx(k)-CPE biosenzor je pokazivao linearni odziv u opsegu koncentracija glukoze 0,5 do 1,5 mM uz r2 = 0,9946, a biosenzor [Cu(acac2en)]-GOx(M12)-CPE u opsegu koncentracija 0,5 do 5,0 mM glukoze uz r2 = 0,9896. Što se tiče osetljivosti ova dva biosenzora, biosenzor [Cu(acac2en)]-GOx(k)-CPE se pokazao kao 20 puta osetljiviji uz LOD 0,16 mM i LOQ 0,52 mM u odnosu na biosenzor [Cu(acac2en)]-GOx(M12)-CPE kome je izračunati LOD bio 0,62 mM, a LOQ 2,07 mM. Stabilnost oba biosenzora nije bila na zavidnom nivou.

Geological substrate-related variability of Teucrium montanum L. (Lamiaceae) essential oil

AB  - This study aimed to determine the qualitative variability of essential oils of mountain germander – Teucrium
montanum L. (Lamiaceae) at the population level, depending on the type of geological substrate. Ten samples of
essential oils originated from aerial plant parts of populations from calcareous and ten from serpentinite were
tested by GCxGC-MS method. The obtained results showed that the serpentinite populations have more than 3
times higher essential oil yield than calcareous populations. Based on the average values for the relative percentage amounts of T. montanum essential oils, it was shown that the sesquiterpenes (34.89%) are the main
compounds in analyzed essential oils. Population from calcareous habitats synthesize twice as many aliphatic
hydrocarbons than populations from serpentinite habitats, while populations from serpentinite habitats synthesize twice as much mono- and sesquiterpenes. The compounds with highest relative percentage amounts in
calcareous populations was the hydrocarbon tetracosane (9.02%), while in serpentinite populations it was
oxygenated sesquiterpene, limonen-10-ol (4.81%). Compounds which were only detected for calcareous populations are: dodecane and isophytol, while for serpentinite populations are: 3-caren-2-ol, carvone oxide and
pyronene. The obtained results indicate a significant influence of the habitat geological substrate on the qualitative characteristics of the T. montanum essential oil. Differentiation of calcareous and serpentinite populations
into two distinct groups based on the essential oil composition indicate the significant presence of specific
chemotypes developed by the influence of various edaphic characteristics.
