AB - In the last two decades, the Turija oil field (SE Pannonian Basin, Serbia) has attracted attention through oil discoveries in new wells. The source rocks of the Turija oil are still unknown. In this study, potential lower Miocene (Ottnangian-Karpatian) to upper Miocene (Pannonian) source rocks from some boreholes near the Turija oil field were investigated to determine the origin, depositional environment, hydrocarbon potential and maturity of organic matter (OM). The Rock-Eval method, biomarker and carbon isotope analyses were used. The obtained results indicate a mixed aquatic-terrestrial (Ottnangian-Karpatian and Badenian) and predominantly aquatic (Badenian and Pannonian) origin of OM, deposited under variable, reducing to oxic conditions. The majority of studied samples show a good oil generation potential. Numerous maturity indicators imply that maturity of OM varies from immature to mature. The large heterogeneity (facies and maturity) of the Badenian samples is consistent with remarkable environmental changes caused by the uplift of the Alps and Carpathians in the middle to late Badenian.

AB - A detailed investigation of significance of the infrared (IR) spectroscopic branching factor (СН2/СН3; the ratio of methylene and methyl group peak heights at 2917–2921 and 2951–2954 cm-1, respectively in the IR spectra) for characterization of alkane structure, geochemical properties and viscosity of 76 oil samples was performed. These oils, originating from 13 Serbian oil fields in SE Pannonian Basin, differ according to source and depositional environment of organic matter (OM), as well as by thermal maturity and biodegradation stage. Methylene and methyl asymmetric stretching peak absorbances were used for the branching factor calculation. CH2 peak positions exhibited3–4 cm-1 red shift with increasing the CH2/CH3 ratio, due to a greater contribution of trans vs. gauche rotamers in aliphatic chains. Comparing IR spectra of the oils and model n-alkanes, it was established that the average (CH2)n methylene chain length per СН3 group varied from n = 3.5 to 6.5. The CH2/CH3 ratio showed significant concordance with geochemical parameters, enabling clear distinction of the oils according to source and depositional environment of OM. At the same time, dependence of the CH2/CH3 ratio on oil maturity in the range from immature to mature was not observed, allowing for an accurate determination of oil genetic types irrespective of maturity. The CH2/CH3 ratio showed good accordance with oil biodegradation scale and oil viscosity.

AB - This thesis investigates the maturation changes of organic matter in humic coals, starting from the late diagenesis up to the semianthracite stage of carbonification, whichcorresponds to the vitrinite reflectance (Rr) range of 0.4-1.8 %. Organic mattermaturation was simulated by the closed-system pyrolysis at 250 and 400 °C, conductedon a subbituminous (Rr = 0.42 %) and a bituminous coal (Rr = 0.56 %) from theBogovina coal basin. The changes in kerogen and bitumen were analyzed. Vitrinite contentscontinually increase within 0.4-1.8 % Rr range. Sporinite, resinite, suberinite, andalginite are the most reactive liptinite macerals. The most important liquid products oftheir thermolysis are n-alkanes, n-alkylbenzenes, n-alkylthiophenes, andn-alkylbenzo[b]thiophenes. Liptinites substantially degrade at 400 °C (Rr = 1.8 %),producing primarily n-alkanes. Inertinite contents increase up to Rr = 0.8 %, followedby a slight decrease in Rr = 0.8-1.8 % maturation range. The distributions of various compounds in pyrolysis oil indicate a substantialincrease in thermal maturity, particularly at Rr = 1.8 %. The oils obtained at 400 °Cshow the petroleum-type distribution of hydrocarbons. The applicability of maturityparameters was determined in 0.4-1.8 % Rr range. A new maturity parameter, having agood sensitivity in this wide maturity range, is defined based on the distribution ofmethylfluorenes.Coal asphaltenes were investigated by pyrolysis, in the same manner as humiccoals, and by mild oxidation methods. The pyrolysis at 400 °C and the mild oxidation ofasphaltenes increase the maturity level. Hence, the oil obtained at 250 °C most closelyresembles bitumen, particularly in low rank coals. Coal asphaltenes have a greaterhydrocarbon generation potential than coal kerogen.A new series of biomarkers was discovered (C33-C35 31-methylbenzohopanes)and their application in correlation studies was defined.

AB - Silver fine powder with different shapes and sizes were prepared by chemical
reduction and characterized by scanning electron microscope. In this paper was
presented the method for the preparation of the fine Ag powder with particles size
smaller than 2.5 μm with suitability for the mass-production scale. Reduction was
performed from nitrate solution directly by vigorous stirring at room temperature by
three different reduction agents, with and without presence of two dispersants. Scanning
electron microscopy revealed the preferred size of the particles obtained in all
experiments with aim of the protecting agent. Larger particles and wider size
distribution were obtained without surfactants although with average size of about 1 μm
and small quantity of larger clusters of primary particles that is out of the fine powder
classification. High purity, 99.999%, of silver was obtained in every experiment.
