Considerations on Reservoir Sedimentation and Heavy Metals Content Within the Drenova Reservoir (B&H)

AB  - Reservoir sedimentation is a serious problem in many areas with high sediment yield. The main objective of this research is to analyse the storage capacity of Drenova reservoir and to determine the quality of water and sediment, particularly the content of heavy metals. Integrated GPS system and echo-sounder were used during the bathymetric survey in order to estimate sediment deposition in Drenova reservoir. The 2012 current state Digital Elevation Model (DEM) was compared to the preconstruction state DEM, which was compiled from geodetic bases and project documentation, thus enabling determination of all changes in the storage of Drenova reservoir. The results of this comparison showed that in the past 30 years, the storage capacity of Drenova reservoir decreased by 262,963 m(3) and 274,342 m(3) based on the normal and maximum water level. Drenova accumulation area is covered with 348,216 m(3) of sediment, which decreased the ineffective space by 69.64% and the total operational space by 5.81%. Water analysis of Drenova reservoir showed usual physical chemical parameters for these types of reservoirs and that it corresponds to maximum allowable concentration for the 11 class water level. The enrichment factor for metal concentrations showed that the anthropogenic influence is moderate for Ni and As, while it is minor for Cr, Cd, Mn, Zn and Cu, and it indicates no enrichment for Pb. The obtained results not only enabled defining potential locations for sediment desilting and its proper disposal in the basin, but led to consideration of other possibilities regarding duration span of Drenova reservoir.

Decolorization of Reactive Black 5 using a dielectric barrier discharge in the presence of inorganic salts

AB  - Inorganic salts improve the coloration of textiles, which increases the pollution load of dye-house effluent in general. Decolorization of the reactive textile dye C.I. Reactive Black 5 was studied using Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) in a non-thermal plasma reactor, based on the coaxial water falling film Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD). The initial dye concentration in the solution was 40.0 mg L-1. The effects of the addition of different high concentrations of inorganic salt (NaCl, Na2SO4 and Na2CO3) on the degree of decolorization were studied. The dye solution was recirculated through the DBD reactor with an applied energy density of 45.0-315 kJ L-1. The influence of residence time was investigated after 5 min and 24 h of plasma treatment. Decolorization of the dye was monitored spectrophotometrically. The pH value and the conductivity of the dye solution were measured after each recirculation. The most effective decolorization of over 90 % was obtained with the addition of NaCl (50 g L-1) with an applied energy density of 135 kJ L-1 and after a residence time of 24 h of plasma treatment. Decolorization of the solutions containing inorganic salts Na2SO4 and Na2CO3 were lower than for the solution without salt.
AB  - Neorganske soli poboljšavaju bojenje tekstila. Povećana koncentracija soli u otpadnoj vodi koja potiče iz tekstilne industrije dodatno opterećuje otpadnu vodu u celini. U okviru ovog rada proučavano je obezbojavanje reaktivne tekstilne boje reaktivno crno 5 koristeći unapređeni oksidacioni proces (AOP) pomoću koaksijalnog reaktora na bazi netermičke plazme. Reaktor radi na principu dielektričnog barijernog pražnjenja (DBD), pri čemu je jedan sloj dielektrika tanak sloj tretirane vode koji se konstantno obnavlja (protočni tip reaktora). Početna koncentracija boje u tretiranom rastvoru je bila 40,0 mg L-1. Proučavan je uticaj različitih visokih koncentracija neorganskih soli (NaCl, Na2SO4 i Na2CO3) na stepen obezbojenja. Rastvor boje je sedam puta recirkulasan kroz DBD reaktor, što odgovara primenjenoj gustini energije od 45 do 315 kJ L-1. Procenat obezbojenja rastvora boje je meren posle 5 min i posle 24 h od tretmana plazmom. Obezbojavanje boje je praćeno pomoću spektrofotometrijskog merenja. Posle svake recirkulacije rastvora boje merene su promena pH vrednosti i provodljivost rastvora. Mechano-chemical synthesis of stoichiometric nickel and nickel-zinc ferrite powders with Nicolson-Ross analysis of the absorption coefficients

AB  - The interest in finding new methods for the preparation of nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) and nickel-zinc ferrite (NixZn1-xFe2O4) powders has recently increased, because the physical and chemical properties of these soft magnetic materials depend strongly on the preparation conditions. In this study, powder samples of ferrites were obtained by: 1) a classic sintering procedure (NixZn1-xFe2O4, x = 0.9) and 2) planetary mill synthesis (both NiFe2O4 and the NixZn1-xFe2O4). The mechano-chemical reaction leading to the formation of the spinel phase of NixZn1-xFe2O4 (x = 1 or 0.9) was monitored by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The values of the real and imaginary parts of the permittivity and permeability were measured for the obtained nickel and nickel-zinc ferrite samples in the 7-12 GHz frequency range. Based on the obtained results, the electromagnetic radiation (EMR) absorption coefficients were calculated for all three types of sample. It was concluded that the method of preparation and the final particle size influence the EMR absorption coefficient of nickel and nickel-zinc ferrites.
AB  - U novije vreme povećan je interes za pronalaženje novih metoda za sintezu nikal-ferita (NiFe2O4) i nikal-cink-feritnih (NixZn1-xFe2O4) prahova, zbog činjenice da fizička i hemijska svojstva ovih 'mekih' magnetnih materijala u mnogome zavise od uslova pripreme. Dobijeni feritni prahovi, opisani u ovom radu, sintetisani su: 1) klasičnom procedurom sinterovanja (NixZn1-xFe2O4, x = 0,9 ili 2) sintezom u planetarnom mlinu (NiFe2O4 i NixZn1-xFe2O4). Prosečna veličina čestica dobijenih prvom metodom iznosi 3-5 μm, dok druga metoda daje čestice veličine 10-12 nm. Karakterizacija uzoraka praćena je skenirajućom elektronskom mikroskopijom (SEM), transmisionom elektronskom mikroskopijom (TEM), kao i difrakcionom analizom X-zracima (XRD). Realni i imaginarni delovi koeficijenata permitivnosti i permeabilnosti su mereni na dobijenim uzorcima nikal i nikal-cink-ferita u frekventnom opsegu 7-12 GHz. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata, izračunati su EMR apsorpcioni koeficijenti za sve dobijene uzorke. Zaključeno je da je način pripreme, kao i dobijena veličina čestica, utiču na EMR apsorpcione koeficijente nikal i nikal-cink-ferita.

Modeling the ligand specific mu- and delta-opioid receptor conformations

AB  - An automated docking procedure was applied to study the binding of a series of mu- and delta-selective ligands to ligand-specific mu- and delta-opioid receptor models. Short-time molecular dynamic simulations were used to obtain ligand-specific mu- and delta-opioid receptors from arbitrarily chosen models of the active form of these receptors. The quality of receptor model depended on the molecular volume of the ligand in the receptor-ligand complex used in the molecular dynamic simulations. Within a series of ligands of similar size (volume), the results of ligand docking to the obtained ligand-specific receptor conformation were in agreement with point mutation studies. The correlation of the calculated and the experimentally determined binding energies was improved in relation to the initial receptor conformation.
AB  - Računska metoda automatizovanog dokiranja primenjena je na vezivanje serije liganada, specifičnih za µ- i δ-receptore, za modele ovih receptora. Kratkotrajna molekulsko dinamička simulacija je korišćena za dobijanje konformacija ovih receptora koje su specifične za pojedine ligande, polazeći od slučajno izabranog modela aktiviranog receptora. Kvalitet ovako dobijenog modela receptora zavisi od molekulske zapremine liganda u ligand-receptor kompleksu korišćenog u molekulsko-dinamičkoj simulaciji. Za seriju liganda slične zapremine rezultati dokiranja su u skladu sa eksperimentalnim rezltatima mutacija aminokiselina u receptoru. Korelacija izračunatih i merenih energija vezivanja je poboljšana u odnosu na rezultate dobijene sa polaznom konformacijom receptora.

Short-time molecular dynamic simulations were used to obtain ligand-specific mu- and delta-opioid receptors from arbitrarily chosen models of the active form of these receptors. The quality of receptor model depended on the molecular volume of the ligand in the receptor-ligand complex used in the molecular dynamic simulations. Within a series of ligands of similar size (volume), the results of ligand docking to the obtained ligand-specific receptor conformation were in agreement with point mutation studies. The correlation of the calculated and the experimentally determined binding energies was improved in relation to the initial receptor conformation., Računska metoda automatizovanog dokiranja primenjena je na vezivanje serije liganada, specifičnih za µ- i δ-receptore, za modele ovih receptora. Kratkotrajna molekulsko dinamička simulacija je korišćena za dobijanje konformacija ovih receptora koje su specifične za pojedine ligande, polazeći od slučajno izabranog modela aktiviranog receptora. Kvalitet ovako dobijenog modela receptora zavisi od molekulske zapremine liganda u ligand-receptor kompleksu korišćenog u molekulsko-dinamičkoj simulaciji. Za seriju liganda slične zapremine rezultati dokiranja su u skladu sa eksperimentalnim rezltatima mutacija aminokiselina u receptoru. Korelacija izračunatih i merenih energija vezivanja je poboljšana u odnosu na rezultate dobijene sa polaznom konformacijom receptora.",
