AB - Ovo tehničko rešenje se odnosi na rešavanje problema prečišćavanja industrijskih i podzemnih voda kontaminiranih naftnim zagađivačima. Ono daje prikaz kombinovane tehnike prečišćavanja voda kontaminiranih naftnim ugljovodonicima primenom mehanički tretiranog sorbenta na bazi koštica breskve (otpad iz industrije za preradu voća) koji pored uloge sorbenta imai ulogu nosača mikroorganizama u biološkom procesu remedijacije.

AB - The investigations in scope of this doctoral dissertation were based on the content of aseveral phytochemicals and it comprised chemical characterization of kernels of 25 peachcultivars/genotypes differing in genetic and geographical origin cultivated under the sameclimatic conditions in the territory of Serbia within a collection of the „Radmilovac‖Experimental Station of the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Agriculture. In order to determine the similarities and differences between the individualcultivars/genotypes of the peach, as well as to identify potential biomarkers of their geneticand geographical origin, the research included an analysis of the variability of standardcultivars (originating in the USA and Italy), promising hybrids (created by standard cultivarscross-breeding) and several vineyard peach genotypes as autochthonous cultivars fromSerbia. Except from this division, the examined genotypes of the peach differed according tothe ripening time.Gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC-FID) was used to determinethe composition of fatty acids in samples of the peach kernels. Regardless of the differencebetween genotypes, the peach kernel oil has the similar fatty acid composition, which themost consists of unsaturated fatty acids, oleic and linoleic acids. Variation betweenvarieties/genotypes of peach is only seen in the difference in the percentage concentrations ofthe most abundant fatty acids. The kernel oil has a low total saturated fatty acid content lessthan 15%, which is mainly composed of palmitic and stearic acids. The phenolic profile ofpeach kernels was determined by ultra-high-perfomance liquid chromatography coupled witha hybrid mass spectrometer (UHPLC-LTQ OrbiTrap MS/MS). In samples of peach kernels, different classes of phenolic substances and several organic acids with small number of Catoms were detected. Among phenolic compounds, the most abundant in peach seeds werecatechin and six phenolic acids: protocatechuic, p-hydroxybenzoic, p-hydroxyphenylacetic,chlorogenic, p-coumaric and ferulic acids. The quantification of saccharides was perfomedusing high-performance anion exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection(HPAEC-PAD)...

AB - Vegetables play an important role in human nutrition and their importance in diet is determined by its chemical composition. Numerous studies indicate a high degree of contamination of soil and plants produced in certain agro-ecological conditions, especially near urban and industrial areas. Accordingly, toxic and potentially toxic elements (aluminum, chromium, copper, manganese, nickel, lead and zinc) were quantified in edible parts of four vegetable species (potato, cabbage, carrot and broccoli) by means of inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometry (ICP–OES). In addition, health risk assessment was done and expressed through estimated weekly intake of elements (EWI) and hazard quotient (HQ). Samples of each species originating from different localities were collected from three green markets in the city of Belgrade (Serbia). The content of studied elements ranged from 1.32 to 4.00, 0.31 to 5.77, 3.50 to 23.11, 1.82 to 11.17 and 2.11 to 10.62 mg/kg for aluminum, cooper, manganese, nickel and zinc, respectively. Chromium was detected in carrot sample (1.76 mg/kg), whereas concentration of lead in two samples of broccoli exceeded the maximum allowed concentration (>0.3 mg/kg) set by the national regulations. The average estimated weekly intakes for Al, Cu, and Zn were within the safe limits set by FAO/WHO, while for Ni and Pb in some vegetables were considerably higher than proposed values. In respect to the obtained results, a great weekly health risk was indicated for chromium, nickel and lead with the highest HQ values: 2.44, 10.32 and 2.02, respectively. The results of the study impose the necessity for continuous monitoring of harmful elements content in individual vegetable crops as well as strict regulative guide-lines in order to diminish possibility of contamination.

AB - Adsorption is one the best commonly used technique for treatment of petroleum contaminated water. The biosorption potential of waste biomass (peach shell, agro-industrial waste) as a low-cost biosorbent for petroleum hydrocarbon from aqueous solution was explored. Biosorption experiments were carried out using a shake-flask technique with a constant amount of (bio) sorbent of 1 g mixed with 100 ml of water contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons at concentrations of 4 mg/L, 12 mg/L, 18 mg/L, 24 mg/L, 30 mg/L, 40 mg/L and 80 mg/L. The obtained results show that waste biomass is efficient in the removal of petroleum pollutants from the water solution. Biosorption is a potentially alternative technique for wastewater treatment. Their major advantages are low cost, high efficiency, renewability.

Njene glavne prednosti su niska cena, visoka efikasnost i obnovljivost.",

AB - The preliminary assessment of the properties of alginate immobilized aquatic weed Myriophyllum spicatum beads-MsAlg in a multi-element system of nine Serbian lakes water samples was done. Herein, the results obtained in the biosorption experiment with MsAlg contents of twenty-two elements analysed by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry, biosorption capacity, element removal efficiency, total hardness (TH) and quality index of water (WQI) are presented. Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was used for the characterization of M. spicatum and its beads. The study showed that aluminium, magnesium and strontium were adsorbed by MsAlg in the water samples from all examined lakes; barium and iron in the water samples from six lakes. The overall average efficiency of MsAlg in biosorption of elements was in the following order: Al gt Ba gt Sr gt Fe gt Mg (58.6, 51.7, 48.2, 23.9 and 17.7%, respectively). The increase of TH and WQI values after the biosorption was noticed in all studied lake water samples. The most significant correlations for pH were regarding the contents of B, Mg and Ca, whereas WQI was highly correlated to the contents of B and Mg, and pH. The complexity of the obtained data was explained by Cluster Analysis and Principal Component Analysis, which showed good discrimination capabilities between the water samples taken from different locations. Considering that the invasive M. spicatum is natural, widespread and that its immobilization is cheap and eco-friendly, presented findings could be helpful in further assessment of MsAlg beads for its potential use as biofilter. AB - Locally available apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) shells classified as a waste product from fruit processing, were alkali activated in order to develop an efficient heavy metal ions sorbent for water purification. To examine the changes occurred after alkali treatment, raw (SH) and modified apricot shells (SHM) were thoroughly characterized in terms of their chemical composition and surface properties. Chemical analysis revealed that alkaline treatment causes the disintegration of hemicellulose (its content decreased from 19.2 to 3.5%), which was in accordance with FTIR results. SEM micrographs and the mercury intrusion porosimetry revealed a larger surface area and porosity of SHM. Bohem's acid-base titration method indicated that the most of the SHM surface carboxylic groups were in sodium salt form and together with the pH of points of zero charge showed increase of surface alkalinity after modification. Treatment with NaOH enhanced the adsorption capacity by 154, 61 and 90% for Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+, respectively. The amount of cations released from SHM was almost equal to the amount of adsorbed metal ions, suggesting ion exchange mechanism. The pseudo-second order kinetic indicated that the heavy metals cations were bound predominantly by complexation. In order to establish the effectiveness of the biosorbent in real wastewater sample, SHM was employed for cleaning-up of drain water emanating from atomic adsorption spectrophotometer. The SHM showed high removal efficiency towards multiple metal ions. The amounts of Fe, Pb, Cu and Cr ions were reduced by 97, 87, 81 and 80%, respectively, while Ni and Zn amounts were reduced for 33 and 14%. Used biosorbent SHM can be successfully regenerated with HCl (desorption gt 95%) and after regeneration biosorbent can be reused or it can be safely disposed. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. abstract = "Locally available apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) shells classified as a waste product from fruit processing, were alkali activated in order to develop an efficient heavy metal ions sorbent for water purification. AB - In this study, hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) was employed for thermochemical conversion of energy crop Miscanthus x gigcuiteus GREEF et DEU. The effect of process temperatures, in the range between 180 and 220 degrees C, on the relevant characteristics of the obtained products, hydrochars and process waters, was investigated. The obtained results showed that the HTC promotes fuel properties and energy density of the solids regarding the feedstock. Furthermore, temperature governs the lowering of the volatiles, ash, and moisture in hydrochars, making its potential use as solid fuels more beneficial than the miscanthus. FT-IR spectroscopy and thermal analysis confirmed degradation of hemicellulose at temperatures above 200 degrees C, and an increase of the total content of cellulose and lignin in the hydrochars. In general, hydrochar obtained at 220 degrees C exhibited the best combustion characteristics and is, therefore, the most suitable for use as a solid biofuel. However, in the residual liquids, some amounts of fluorene, phenanthrene, fluoranthene, and pyrene were detected. The polluting potential, visible through the growth of TOC, COD and BOD values, of the analyzed process waters, increases with the rise in carbonization temperature. The TOC values (5.8-9.9 gC L-1) were on average lower than those reported for organic wastewaters ( gt 10 gC L-1). The proportion of hydrocarbons in the process water increases with the increase in the carbonization temperature from 2.92 to 20.9%. Consequently, bioassays with Vibrio fischeri showed a relatively high toxicity of the liquid phase, where a concentration of about 1% was causing bacteria inhibition of 50%.

AB - The water samples from Rasina District (Serbia) were evaluated for principal physical and chemical parameters, as well as for microbiological contaminants. Results were compared to National and World Health Organization (WHO) water quality standards. Several samples contained total organic matter, ammonia, residual chlorine, nitrite, nitrate, iron and manganese above proposed legislation limits. For samples contaminated with faecal bacteria, Streptococcus faecalis, aerobic mesophilic bacteria, coliform bacteria and sulfite-reducing clostridia special attention should be payed to drinking water disinfecting methods. The potential health risks of waterborne diseases due to consumption of water from contaminated sources could be implied.

AB - Food quality and safety are a major concern of the modern world. The contents of twelve elements were determined in selected vegetable species taken at the city green market using ICP-OES analysis. To assess the safety of dietary intake of these metals through the consumption of vegetables, the estimated weekly intake (EWI) was calculated and compared with the provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI). The most abundant element was Al, whereas As, Cd, Co, Sb and Mo were not found in studied vegetables. Lead exceeded the maximum allowed concentration (MAC) set by national regulations. The average estimated weekly intake for aluminum, chromium, copper, manganese, nickel, lead, and zinc were 0.392, 0.010, 0.015, 0.096, 0.019, 0.038 and 0.124 mg kg(-1), respectively. Cr, Ni and Pb in some vegetables were considerably higher than the safe limits set by FAO/WHO.

Cr, Ni and Pb in some vegetables were considerably higher than the safe limits set by FAO/WHO.",

AB - Procedures for solubilization of phosphorus from insoluble phosphates by acidophilic autotrophs and heterotrophs are considered to be research subjects of great importance in sustainable soil management, and could become, in the future, an alternative to current expensive methods of industrial fertilizer production. Furthermore, this biological production of fertilizer can be considered to be more environmentally friendly than current production methods. The object of this study was to investigate the possibility of phosphorus leaching from phosphate rock apatite using sulphuric acid generated from pyrite by iron-oxidizing Acidithiobacillus sp. B2, and to test the possible application of the mixture of these two minerals to produce a natural phosphate fertilizer. Iron-oxidizing Acidithiobacillus sp. B2 was isolated from copper sulphide mine wastewater (Lake Robule) in Bar, Serbia. The bacterium was identified by 16SrDNA oligonucleotide sequence and characterized using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (MALDI-TOF MS). The leaching experiment was carried out in laboratory conditions at 28 degrees C for a period of four weeks. The results showed that up to 34.5% of the inorganic phosphorus was leached from the test mixture when in suspension with iron-oxidizing Acidithiobacillus sp. B2, while at the same time, the degree of leaching from a control suspension (without iron-oxidizing Acidithiobacillus sp. B2) was only up to 3.8%. Due to its low cost and environmental acceptance, treatment of soil with phosphate minerals in combination with pyrite and acidophilic iron- and sulphur-oxidizing bacteria could become an attractive and alternative way to improve the quality of alkaline soils.

AB - Phosphorus solubilization from insoluble phosphate ores by acidophilic autotrophs and heterotrophs is a research of significant interest, because of potential use of these ores as fertilizers, which are economically and ecologically more acceptable than industrial phosphate fertilizers. The object of this paper was to examine the possibility of phosphorus leaching from phosphate ore from Lisina deposit (Bosilegrad), by bacterially generated sulfuric acid, in laboratory conditions. The experiments were carried out with bacterium Acidithiobacillus (At.) ferrooxidans, which is isolated and selected from the copper sulphide mine in Bor. The main goal of the experiment was to confirm if it is possible to use phosphate ore in combination with examined bacterial culture, as a natural fertilizer. Results obtained show that phosphorus has been leached up to 24,5 % in suspension with At. ferrooxidans, and in the same time, degree of leaching in control suspension (without At. frrooxidans) was up to 7,2 %. Influence of At. ferrooxidans on phosphorus solubilization has been confirmed, so the future perspective of our investigations should be directed to examination of microbiological leaching of apatite mixtures with sulphide substrates, and their potential use in quality improvement of alkaline soils.

abstract = "Phosphorus solubilization from insoluble phosphate ores by acidophilic autotrophs and heterotrophs is a research of significant interest, because of potential use of these ores as fertilizers, which are economically and ecologically more acceptable than industrial phosphate fertilizers. Influence of At. ferrooxidans on phosphorus solubilization has been confirmed, so the future perspective of our investigations should be directed to examination of microbiological leaching of apatite mixtures with sulphide substrates, and their potential use in quality improvement of alkaline soils., Postupci rastvaranja fosfora iz nerastvornih fosfatnih ruda pomoću acidofilnih autotrofa i heterotrofa spadaju u veoma bitna istraživanja, zbog moguće primene ovih ruda kao đubriva, čija je upotreba ekonomski i ekološki prihvatljivija od industrijskih fosfatnih đubriva.
