Comparative digestion of thermally treated vertebrates and invertebrates allergen pairs in real food matrix

AB  - The digestion stability of allergen pairs, tropomyosin, TM (fish and seafood allergen), and myosin light chain, MLC (chicken meat allergen) is compared among vertebrates and invertebrates in raw and cooked food matrix under standardized simulated in vitro gastrointestinal (GI) digestion. SDS-PAGE followed by multiple TM and MLC-specific antibodies in semidry WB revealed pepsin resistance of invertebrate TMs (abalone, oyster, shrimp) under diet-relevant conditions (raw, cooked). Vertebrate TMs (chicken, pork, beef) were less stable to digestion except that the raw chicken TM was observed pepsin resistant (not diet-relevant). Vertebrate (chicken) MLC was thermally stable. A new 28 kDa protein bound to anti-MLC antibody in cooked chicken and pork; could be the aggregates of MLC. Raw shrimp MLC showed pepsin resistance among invertebrates. A good correlation was observed between combined resistance of TM and MLC to GI digestion following the diet-relevant thermal treatment and reported protein allergenicity among vertebrates and invertebrates.

AB  - Triclosan (TCS) is a polychlorinated phenoxy phenol (PCPPs) used as a disinfectant and a broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal agent in personal hygiene products. TCS easily forms diphenyl ethers and dioxins, which are persistent organic pollutants.This work used a double approach for the TSC sensing: a) screen-printed (SPE) electrochemical platform for on-site application, modified with lanthanum iron oxide and graphitic carbon nitride composite (LaFeO3/Fe2O3@g-C3N4/SPE); and b) carbon paste electrode (CPE), modified with the same material and used in laboratory conditions. Linear range from 0.1 μM to 10 μM, the limit of detection (LOD) of 29 nM and the limit of quantification (LOQ) of 91 nM were obtained for CP electrode in BRBS pH 8. SPE showed the best analytical parameters in BRBS at pH 3, with a linear range from 0.3 μM to 7 μM, LOD of 0.09 μM and LOQ of 0.28 μM. Furthermore, the influence of potential interferents was investigated and proven to be negligible. Determination of TSC was performed to estimate the environmental impact of this compound as well as the practical usefulness of the proposed sensor in the real sample analysis, confirmed with a HPLC analysis.

AB  - U okviru ovog rada analizirani su uzorci sedimenata i zemljišta zaštićenog prirodnog dobra “Obrenovački zabran” u Obrenovcu. Uzorci su uzeti sa dva lokaliteta, priobalni uzorci sedimenta Save, i uzorci zemljišta iz močvare koja je često poplavljena vodama iz Kolubare. Ispitivanja su podrazumevala izolovanje rastvorne organske supstance, bitumen, metodom Soksklet ekstrakcije, razdvajanje frakcija hromatografijom na koloni, i analizu zasićenih i aromatičnih frakcija gasnohromatografsko-masenospektometrijskom analizom (GC-MS).
Cilj ovog istraživanja je utvrđivanje porekla organske supstance u uzorcima obalnih sedimenata Save i močvarnog zemljišta Obrenovačkog zabrana, na osnovu raspodele i relativne obilnosti ugljovodonika.

Microspherical Titanium-Phosphorus Double Oxide: Hierarchical Structure Development for Sensing Applications

AB  - Stable, water-soluble titanium complexed with mandelic acid was used as a precursor for titanium phosphorus double oxide obtained in hydrothermal conditions in the presence of phosphoric acid. Surprisingly, hydrolysis of organic complexes provided a microstructured sphere with narrow size distribution, low aggregation and a small fraction of morphological irregularities. Obtained microspheres had a complex structure comprised of flakes, whose size could be manipulated with temperature conditions. Samples were found to be electrochemically active against sulcotrione, a well-recognized herbicide. Electrochemical sensors based on the synthesized microspheres were successfully adapted for natural water reservoir analysis and exhibited low levels of detection of 0.61 µM, limit of quantification of 1.86 µM, wide dynamic linear range from 2 to 200 µM, good selectivity, excellent reproducibility and in-time stability.

AB  - Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic pollutant that is widely spread in waterbody with effluents as a result of its extensive use in the plastics industry. It posses to the class of compounds that are endocrine disruptors and has a great negative impact on living organisms. Therefore, the progress in development of green technology for BPA removal from the aquatic media is crucial for environmental protection. This paper presents BPA removal by electrochemical oxidation on SnO2-MWCNT (tin dioxide-multi walled carbon nanotube) nanocomposite anode. The nanocomposite was structural and morphological characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Electrochemical properties of the SnO2-MWCNT anode were investigated using cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry and electrical impedance spectroscopy. The electrochemical behavior of anodes toward BPA in sodium sulfate solutions has shown that BPA is oxidized by indirectly mechanism via hydroxyl radicals (verified by quenching tests). Electrolysis of BPA has been done in galvanostatic regime at current densities 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0 mA cm−2 in 0.1 M sodium sulfate supported electrolyte pH 4.0. Complete degradation of BPA was accomplished after 5 h of electrolysis at a current density of 20 mA cm−2. The proposed electrochemical technology using a low-cost SnO2-MWCNT electrode is promising for wastewater BPA removal.

abstract = "Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic pollutant that is widely spread in waterbody with effluents as a result of its extensive use in the plastics industry. It posses to the class of compounds that are endocrine disruptors and has a great negative impact on living organisms. Therefore, the progress in development of green technology for BPA removal from the aquatic media is crucial for environmental protection. This paper presents BPA removal by electrochemical oxidation on SnO2-MWCNT (tin dioxide-multi walled carbon nanotube) nanocomposite anode. The nanocomposite was structural and morphological characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. Electrochemical properties of the SnO2-MWCNT anode were investigated using cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry and electrical impedance spectroscopy. The electrochemical behavior of anodes toward BPA in sodium sulfate solutions has shown that BPA is oxidized by indirectly mechanism via hydroxyl radicals (verified by quenching tests). Electrolysis of BPA has been done in galvanostatic regime at current densities 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0 mA cm−2 in 0.1 M sodium sulfate supported electrolyte pH 4.0. Complete degradation of BPA was accomplished after 5 h of electrolysis at a current density of 20 mA cm−2. The proposed electrochemical technology using a low-cost SnO2-MWCNT electrode is promising for wastewater BPA removal.",

Suspendovane u vodi, organski polutanti često nisu lako dostupni mikroorganizmima pa se s toga pribegava upotrebi sorpcionih agenasa. Izbor supstrata koji će za sebe vezati organske polutante često je povezan sa njegovom cenom i dostupnošću pa se u poslednje vreme pored sve prisutnog aktivnog uglja upotrebljava i otpad iz poljoprivredne i drvno-prerađivačke industrije, kao i organozeolit i bentonit.
U ovom radu proučavana je upotreba organozeolita i bentonita u postupcima bioremedijacije vode zagađene naftnim derivatima uz praćenje procesa na respirometru, kompjuterizovanom sistemu za detekciju utroška i oslobađanja selektovanih gasova.

AB  - Considering the health-benefits of berry fruits consumption and increased market demands for food authenticity
as one of the most important quality assurances, phenolic profiling by high-performance thin layer chroma-
tography and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography hyphenated with mass spectrometry was combined
with multivariate analysis for phytochemical characterization and intercultivar discrimination of cultivated
berry seeds. The phenolic profiles of 45 berry seeds from nine genuine Serbian cultivated fruit species (straw-
berry, raspberry, blackberry, black currant, blueberry, gooseberry, cape gooseberry, chokeberry, and goji berry)
revealed a good differentiation according to botanical origin. In order to determine biomarkers responsible for
the classification, a total of 103 phenolic compounds were identified, including 53 phenolic acids and their
derivatives, 26 flavonoids and 24 glycosides. Biomarkers derived from the phenolic profile of berry seeds proved
to be a powerful tool in the authentication of botanical origin, and may be useful in detection of frauds in berry-
based seed-containing product.

AB  - Gamma irradiation provides an alternative pathway to conventional gold nanoparticle synthesis because it is simple, fast, and economical. Here, we employed gamma irradiation at low doses (1–20 kGy) to obtain gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) anchored onto graphene oxide (GO) sheets. GO was selected as a suitable platform for the nucleation and growth of Au NPs because of its large surface area and good dispersibility in water due to the presence of polar oxygen-containing functional groups in its structure. Gamma irradiation at all the applied doses led to the reduction of chloroauric acid and the formation of evenly distributed Au NPs at the GO surface, simultaneously causing the reduction of GO and partial restoration of the graphene structure. As-prepared Au NPs have predominately spheric shapes and the smallest nanoparticles were reported for the dose of 1 kGy. The increase in the irradiation dose caused either the growth of larger particles (5 and 10 kGy) or the broad distribution of particles’ sizes (20 kGy). All samples showed a temperature increase upon exposure to 800 nm laser and photothermal efficiency was the highest for the sample prepared at 20 kGy.

AB  - β-lactoglobulin (BLG) is a major whey protein with numerous techno-functional properties desirable for the food industry. Phycocyanobilin (PCB), a bioactive pigment of Arthrospira platensis with health-promoting effects, covalently binds to BLG at physiological pH. This study investigated the effects of this covalent modification on BLG functional properties. The BLG–PCB adduct possesses enhanced antioxidant properties, and bound PCB protects BLG against free radical-induced oxidation. Despite the similar thermal stabilities of BLG and BLG–PCB, BLG–PCB is less susceptible to covalent and noncovalent aggregation under moderate heat treatment (63 °C, 30 min). Blocked thiol group and reduced hydrophobicity due to hindering of hydrophobic residues by bound PCB, as well as the heat-induced transition of β-sheet to α-helix, contributed to the low susceptibility of BLG–PCB to aggregation. Phycocyanobilin (PCB), a bioactive pigment of Arthrospira platensis with health-promoting effects, covalently binds to BLG at physiological pH. This study investigated the effects of this covalent modification on BLG functional properties. The BLG–PCB adduct possesses enhanced antioxidant properties, and bound PCB protects BLG against free radical-induced oxidation. Despite the similar thermal stabilities of BLG and BLG–PCB, BLG–PCB is less susceptible to covalent and noncovalent aggregation under moderate heat treatment (63 °C, 30 min). Blocked thiol group and reduced hydrophobicity due to hindering of hydrophobic residues by bound PCB, as well as the heat-induced transition of β-sheet to α-helix, contributed to the low susceptibility of BLG–PCB to aggregation. potential for application in the food industry. High-quality (A560/A280 ≥ 5), native (α-helix content 75%) R-PE
was purified from commercial dried Nori (Porphyra sp.) flakes. Thermal unfolding revealed two transitions (at 56

AB  - The emergence of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has attracted attention of the whole scientific community. The SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein plays the most important role in viral attachment to host receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), via the receptor-binding domain (RBD), fusion and entry into the host, and it serves as a target for the development of antibodies, entry inhibitors and vaccines. It has been demonstrated that phycocyanobilin (PCB), a bioactive open-chain tetrapyrrole chromophore of phycocyanin (PC), chromoprotein derived from the cyanobacterium Arthrospira platensis, can bind a plethora of different proteins, both in a noncovalent and covalent manner. This study aimed to investigate interactions of PCB with S protein and RBD respectively. Electrophoretic techniques, fluorescence spectroscopy, and inhibition of S–PCB and RBD–PCB covalent adduct formation using iodoacetamide and N-ethylmaleimide, were employed to examine interactions of PCB with S protein and RBD, while the effects of PCB binding on RBD structure were studied by CD spectroscopy. SDS-PAGE with Zn2+ staining has revealed that PCB covalently binds to both S protein and RBD, via free cysteine residues. Binding constants determined by the fluorescence quenching method were: 2.1×107 M–1 for PCB and S protein and 8.4×104 M–1 for PCB and RBD. Far-UV circular dichroism spectra showed that the binding of PCB influences RBD structure by decreasing the disordered structure content. Due to moderately strong noncovalent interactions of PCB with S protein and RBD, as well as covalent adducts formation, it may exert one of its many bioactive effects via impact on S protein binding to ACE2 receptor.

AB  - High pressure (HP) is a particularly powerful tool to study protein folding/unfolding, revealing subtle structural rearrangements.
Bovine b-lactoglobulin (BLG), a protein of interest in food science, exhibits a strong propensity to bind various
bioactive molecules. We probed the effects of the binding of biliverdin (BV), a tetrapyrrole linear chromophore, on the stability
of BLG under pressure, by combining in situ HP small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and HP-UV absorption spectroscopy.
Although BV induces a slight destabilization of BLG during HP-induced unfolding, a ligand excess strongly prevents BLG oligomerization.
Moreover, at SANS resolution, an excess of BV induces the complete recovery of the protein ‘‘native’’ 3D structure
after HP removal, despite the presence of the BV covalently bound adduct. Mass spectrometry highlights the crucial role of
cysteine residues in the competitive and protective effects of BV during pressure denaturation of BLG through SH/S-S
exchange.

AB  - C-phycocyanin (C-PC), the major protein of cyanobacteria Arthrospira platensis, is a blue
pigment that primarily transfers energy during photosynthesis.It has diverse
biotechnological applications since it can be used in nutraceutical, cosmetics,
pharmaceutical industries, and biomedical research.Its intensive blue colour and strong
antioxidant activity give C-PC significant potential to replace synthetic colourants in the
food industry. However, thermal treatment of food has detrimental effects on C-PC colour
due to sensitivity to higher temperatures; therefore,the application of this natural colourant
in food and other products is limited. Hence, improving C-PC stability is the major
challenge for successful application in food and beverages colouring. In the light of this,we
aim to investigate the thermal stability of C-PC in the presence of selected sugars (glucose,
fructose and sucrose), commonly used in the food industry. Ex-situabsorption
spectrophotometryshowed that 18% solution (w/v) of glucose, sucrose and fructose at pH
7,upon incubation at 65℃, exhibit 91.4, 52.9 and 52.5% of colour preservation,
respectively.In situ fluorescence measurements revealed that free C-PC has a melting point
of 55.4°C, while the presence of glucose and sucrose increases the melting point of C-PC
to 64.4 and 61.4°C, respectively. On the other hand, fructose does not significantly
influence the C-PC melting point. These results show that the thermal stability ofthe CPCsolution is substantially increased in the presence of sugars, while the type of sugar
significantly determines the extent of the stabilisation effect. Overall, our study provides
the strategy for enhancing the application potential of C-PC as natural food colourant,
providing a food product with vivid blue colour and substantial antioxidant activities.

due to sensitivity to higher temperatures; therefore,the application of this natural colourant
in food and other products is limited. Hence, improving C-PC stability is the major
challenge for successful application in food and beverages colouring. In the light of this,we
aim to investigate the thermal stability of C-PC in the presence of selected sugars (glucose,
fructose and sucrose), commonly used in the food industry. Ex-situabsorption
spectrophotometryshowed that 18% solution (w/v) of glucose, sucrose and fructose at pH
7,upon incubation at 65℃, exhibit 91.4, 52.9 and 52.5% of colour preservation,
respectively.In situ fluorescence measurements revealed that free C-PC has a melting point
of 55.4°C, while the presence of glucose and sucrose increases the melting point of C-PC
to 64.4 and 61.4°C, respectively. On the other hand, fructose does not significantly
influence the C-PC melting point. These results show that the thermal stability ofthe CPCsolution is substantially increased in the presence of sugars, while the type of sugar
significantly determines the extent of the stabilisation effect. Overall, our study provides
the strategy for enhancing the application potential of C-PC as natural food colourant,
providing a food product with vivid blue colour and substantial antioxidant activities.",

AB  - To minimize the impact of artificial food colouring (e.g., in drinks) on health, chemical dyes are increasingly replaced by natural 
ones. C-phycocyanin (C-PC), hexameric light-harvesting phycobiliprotein from cyanobacteria Artrhorspira platensis, has been 
proposed as an alternative. The intensive blue colour of C-PC arises from phycocyanobilin (PCB), the covalently attached 
tetrapyrrole chromophores. The presence of PCB chromophores gives C-PC a broad range of bioactive effects (antioxidant, 
anticancer, and immunomodulatory ones), substantially increasing their potential for applications in the food industry. However, 
C-PC issensitive to temperature, and its colour significantly diminishes by thermal treatment, limiting its use in the food industry. 
Hence, improving C-PC stability is the major challenge for successful application in food and beverage colouring. It is well 
known that binding small, high-affinity ligands significantly improve protein stability. Therefore, selecting food-derived ligands 
(such as vitamins, polyphenols, sugars, etc.) with the ability to bind C-PC firmly could be a promising strategy to increase the
C-PC stability and preserve its colour, which should increase its application potential in the food industry.
The main aim of this study is to characterize the binding of selected food-derived ligands (including quercetin, coenzyme Q10, 
gallic acid, vanillic acid, vanillin, resveratrol, glucose, fructose, sucrose, vitamin K, menthol, and dihydrolipoic acid) to C-PC 
by standard spectroscopic methods (UV/VIS absorption spectroscopy, spectrofluorimetry, and CD spectroscopy). Quercetin has
the strongest binding affinity to C-PC (Ka~3.7x105 M-1
), and its effects on C-PC structure and stability have been further 
investigated. CD spectroscopy revealed that quercetin induces stabilization of the protein secondary structure under simulated 
physiological conditions, while the conformation of the PCB chromophore is altered upon quercetin binding. Furthermore, 
quercetin binding increases the thermal stability of C-PC. 
Overall, our study revealed the ability of high-affinity, food-derived ligands to increase the stability of C-PC, which may enhance 
its application potential in the food industry.

AB  - Stabilization of the vivid colors of phycobiliproteins of micro/macroalgae is a prerequisite
for their greater use in the food industry. Phycocyanin (C-PC) was purified from
cyanobacteria Spirulina (Arthrospira) Pacifica raw extract by ammonium sulfate protein
precipitation and anion ion-exchange chromatography. Purity was confirmed
electrophoretically (SDS-PAGE). The binding of ten selected bioactive polyphenols to CPC (including quercetin, coenzyme Q10, gallic acid, vanillic acid, and resveratrol) was
examined by standard spectroscopic methods. Quercetin is shown to have the strongest

algae. Their vivid colours arise from covalently attached tetrapyrrole chromophores. The
exciting characteristic of tetrapyrrole chromophores is the ability to bind metal ions. Heavy
metals are among the most abundant and most dangerous environmental pollutants, and
their removal from the environment is a crucial challenge. Therefore, utilizing PBPs-metal
binding properties could be helpful in heavy metal detection and/or removal. The main aim
of this study is to characterize the binding of selected heavy metal ions (Hg2+, Pb2+, Cd2+)
to R-phycocyanin (R-PC) isolated and purified from red algae Porphyra spp.The protein
fluorescence quenching approach revealed the strong binding affinity of R-PC to Hg2+
(Kd~0.1 μM), while protein binding to Pb2+ and Cd2+ is lower (Kd~3 μM) but still in the
high to moderate range. Circular dichroism spectroscopy demonstrated the ability of Hg2+,
Pb2+ and Cd2+ to slightly -helical content) in
R-PC. Our results indicatethat R-PC could beexploited as a potential biosensor for heavy
metal ions detection (especially Hg2+) in aquatic systems as well as in their removal from

Jedinstvena fizičko-hemijska svojstva PBP pre svega potiču od neproteinskog dela molekula, tj. kovalentno vezanih (jedna ili više) tetrapirolnih fikobilinskih hromofora. Ovi obojeni proteini poseduju obećavajući potencijal da zamene sintetičke kolorante u prehrambenoj industriji. Međutim, neophodni termalni tretmani hrane bi imali štetan efekat na strukturu ovih proteina, samim tim i na njihovu boju, što značajno ograničava primenu ovih proteina u industrijske svrhe. U ovom radu je preliminarno ispitan uticaj glukoze, fruktoze, skroba i saharoze na termalnu stabilizaciju C-fikocijanina (C-PC; iz mikroalge Spirulina Pacifica) i R-fikocijanina (R-PC iz crvene alge Porphira spp.) na neutralnoj (fiziološkoj) pH. Rezultati ukazuju da postoji značajna termalna stabilizacija C-PC u prisustvu (viškova) glukoze i saharoze. Termalna stabilnost R-PC nije bila očigledna u prisustvu navedenih šećera, pod primenjenim ekpserimentalnim uslovima, ali dobijeni rezultati ukazuju da dolazi do delimične stabilizacije sekundarnih strukura ovog proteina. Dobijeni rezultati su dobra polazna osnova za dalja ispitivanja stabilizacije boje fikobilinskih proteina za širu primenu u industriji hrane i pića.

AB  - MiR-21 and miR-375 have been reported as dysregulated in prostate cancer (PCa) in
multiple previous studies. Still, variable or even opposing data for the expression of these microRNAs
in PCa were found, and their potential biomarker properties remain elusive. In an attempt to clarify
their significance as PCa biomarkers, as well as to compare different types of specimens as a source
of relevant microRNAs, we used plasma and matching plasma-derived exosomes from patients with
PCa and patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Plasma and exosomes were obtained
from 34 patients with PCa and 34 patients with BPH, and their levels of expression of miR-21 and
miR-375 were determined by RT-qPCR. We found no significant difference in the level of expression
of these microRNAs in plasma and exosomes between patients with PCa and BPH. The level of
exosomal miR-21 was elevated in PCa patients with high serum PSA values, as well as in patients
with aggressive PCa, while for plasma samples, the results remained insignificant. For miR-375, we
did not find an association with the values of standard prognostic parameters of PCa, nor with cancer
aggressiveness. Therefore, our results support the potential prognostic role of exosomal miR-21
expression levels in PCa.

objective was to detect differences in PTM profiles that take place after roasting using open PTM
search. We conducted a bottom-up proteomic study to investigate the impact of peanut roasting on
readily soluble allergens and their PTM profiles. Proteomic PTM profiling of certain modifications
was confirmed by Western blotting with a series of PTM-specific antibodies. In addition to inducing
protein aggregation and denaturation, roasting may facilitate change in their PTM pattern and relative
profiling. We have shown that Ara h 1 is the most modified major allergen in both samples in terms
of modification versatility and extent. The most frequent PTM was methionine oxidation, especially
in roasted samples. PTMs uniquely found in roasted samples were hydroxylation (Trp), formylation
(Arg/Lys), and oxidation or hydroxylation (Asn). Raw and roasted peanut extracts did not differ
in the binding of IgE from the serum of peanut-sensitised individuals done by ELISA. This study
provides a better understanding of how roasting impacts the PTM profile of major peanut allergens
and provides a good foundation for further exploration of PTMs

One of the key characteristics of contemporary competencies is interdisciplinarity, that is, extension beyond the framework of traditional school subjects, whereby children acquire knowledge that allows them to actively fulfill their civic roles. to their extraordinary properties such as superhydrophobicity, semiconductivity, electron-rich, and
environmental compatibility. The main crystalline phases of TiO2
, anatase, and rutile possess different
crystal structures, crystallinity, crystalline sizes, and specific surface areas, and these characteristics
directly affect the catalytic performance of TiO2
. In the present study, domestic carbon material
enhanced with TiO2 nanoparticles was synthesized and used for the construction of a modified
carbon paste electrode. The electrocatalytic activity of the modified electrodes was investigated
depending on the TiO2 crystalline phases in the electrode material. Furthermore, the obtained
working electrode was utilized for triclosan detection. Under optimized experimental conditions, the
developed electrode showed a submicromolar triclosan detection limit of 0.07 µM and a wide linear
range of 0.1 to 15 µM. The relative standard deviations for repeatability and reproducibility were
lower than 4.1%, and with satisfactory selectivity, the proposed system was successfully applied to
triclosan monitoring in groundwater. All these results confirm that the sustainable production of new
and domestically prepared materials is of great benefit in the field of electrocatalysis and that the
morphology of such produced materials is strongly related to their catalytic properties.

У том контексту, питање еколошког образовања и васпитања и еколошке писмености добија све већи значај. У овом пилот-истраживању испитана је могућност за примену међународног инструмента за одређивање нивоа еколошке писмености Middle School Environmental Literacy Survey (MSELS) на популацију ученика завршних разреда основне школе у Србији. Овај инструмент мери еколошку писменост кроз четири компоненте: еколошко знање, афективни однос према животној средини, когнитивне вештине и проеколошко понашање, са одговарајућим супкомпонентама. Садржај инструмента анализиран је у контексту програма наставе и учења за предмете Биологија и Грађанско васпитање, као и образовних стандарда за крај обавезног образовања за наставни предмет Биологија. У истраживању је коришћен анкетни метод, а за анализу података примењена је дескриптивна статистика. Подаци су прикупљени на узорку ученика седмог разреда основне школе (N=111) са територије Београда. Уз то, одржани су разговори са ученицима у пет групних интервјуа ради провере јасноће садржаја инструмента. Установљено је да је примена овог инструмента примерена по више основа: 1) инструмент је добро теоријски утемељен; 2) инструмент је заснован на целовитом приступу мерењу еколошке писмености; 3) инструмент је адекватан са становишта програма наставе и учења нашег образовног система и 4) инструмент има солидне метријске карактеристике. Поузданост инструмента у целини је ,87. Највиши скор испитани ученици остварили су на компоненти афективног односа према животној средини, у односу на остале мерене компоненте, као и у односу на две државе са којима поредимо добијене резултате (САД, Грчка). Најнижи скор забележен је на скали основних еколошких знања, и закључено је да ученици нису у потпуности овладали знањима која су предвиђена образовним стандардима у настави биологије. Као главни недостатак инструмента може се навести време потребно за попуњавање због обимности садржаја.
AB  - The environmental issues that our country is faced with are numerous, while the consequences of environmental degradation affect the health and the quality of life of our citizens. In this context, the issue of environmental education and environmental literacy is gaining momentum. In the present pilot research we examined the possibility of applying an international instrument for determining the level of environmental literacy, the Middle School Environmental Literacy Survey (MSELS), on a population of students in the higher grades of elementary school in Serbia. This instrument measures the environmental literacy using four components: environmental knolwedge, environmental affect, cognitive skills, and environmental behavior, together with corresponding sub-components. The content of the instrument was analyzed in the context of Biology and Civic education curricula as well as educational standards for the end of compulsory education for the subject Biology. Survey method was used in the research, while the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The data were collected on a sample of the seventh-grade elementary school students (N=111) from the territory of Belgrade. In addition, five group interviews were conducted with the students to check the clarity of the content of the instrument. The researchers established that the implementation of this instrument is adequate on several grounds: 1) the instrument is well-grounded in theory; 2) the instrument is based on a comprehensive approach to environmental literacy measurement; 3) the instrument is adequate in terms of the teaching and learning program in our education system and 4) the instrument has solid metric features. An overall reliability of the instrument is ,87. The respondents had the highest score in the component of affective attitudes towards environment, relative to other measured components, as well as relative to two countries used for comparing the results (USA, Greece). The lowest score was identified on the scale of the basic environmental knowledge, and the conclusion is that students did not fully master the knowledge envisaged in the educational standards for Biology lessons. The main disadvantage of the instrument is the time required for filling it out due to the amount of the content.

This instrument measures the environmental literacy using four components: environmental knolwedge, environmental affect, cognitive skills, and environmental behavior, together with corresponding sub-components. The content of the instrument was analyzed in the context of Biology and Civic education curricula as well as educational standards for the end of compulsory education for the subject Biology. Survey method was used in the research, while the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The data were collected on a sample of the seventh-grade elementary school students (N=111) from the territory of Belgrade. In addition, five group interviews were conducted with the students to check the clarity of the content of the instrument. The researchers established that the implementation of this instrument is adequate on several grounds: 1) the instrument is well-grounded in theory; 2) the instrument is based on a comprehensive approach to environmental literacy measurement; 3) the instrument is adequate in terms of the teaching and learning program in our education system and 4) the instrument has solid metric features. An overall reliability of the instrument is ,87. The respondents had the highest score in the component of affective attitudes towards environment, relative to other measured components, as well as relative to two countries used for comparing the results (USA, Greece). The lowest score was identified on the scale of the basic environmental knowledge, and the conclusion is that students did not fully master the knowledge envisaged in the educational standards for Biology lessons. The main disadvantage of the instrument is the time required for filling it out due to the amount of the content.",
